Perpetual Care Cemeteries
Welcome to the Angelus Memorial Park Cemetery, Alaska's first Memorial Park. established in 1951, and Valley Memorial Park established in 1962. These cemeteries have the burials of some of Alaska's honored and memorable persons. The first burial recorded at Angelus Memorial Park was that of Francis Hassman on August, 14, 1952. The first recorded burial at Valley Memorial Park was that of Woodrow West on April 12, 1963. Across time, these people have been joined by war heroes, territory, state and community leaders, Pioneers, Alaska native leaders and former elected officials including persons such as Ann Stevens, first wife of Senator Ted Stevens, Decema Kimball Andresen Slawson, owner/operator of Historic Kimball's Dry Goods begun in 1915, Phil R. Holdsworth, prisoner of war and Commissioner of Mines for Territory of Alaska and Commissioner of Natural Resources for Alaska and Edward J. Fortier who was one of Alaska's leading journalists and editors. These memorial parks serve as places to remember people who have made great sacrifices to make Alaska a place with a colorful history and a wonderful place to live or visit.
