What is a Podiatrist?
A podiatrist is a medical practitioner who specializes in the care of problems afflicting the foot and ankle. A podiatrist must have completed an undergraduate degree with prerequisite in the biological sciences. A doctor of podiatric medicine degree, (DPM), is granted after completing four years of study of the lower extremity at one of the seven colleges of podiatric medicine in the country. After passing a rigorous written state examination, a podiatrist may practice right after graduation or elect to pursue a post graduate residency training. Your Podiatrist is an integral part of a multidisciplinary heath care management team that promotes a healthy lifestyle.
