Alaska is a dramatic landscape full of natural wonder and adventure. Glaciers carve valleys, rivers traverse wilderness, mountains rise from the ocean and wildlife prosper in this challenging environment. Not just a place to see, Alaska is a land to experience. We invite you to kayak on a backcountry lake, raft a scenic creek, jet boat to a towering glacier, ski trek in silent meadows or overnight at our glacier sled dog camp. Unique wilderness access, top quality gear, Alaskan cuisine and our friendly/experienced guides set us apart.

Alaska Backcountry Access makes Girdwood's scenic Glacier Valley our year round base of operation. Settled by gold miners in 1896 the area is now home to Alyeska Ski Resort and a small thriving Alaskan community. The surrounding Chugach National Forest and Chugach State Park offer access to stunning backcountry settings and unlimited adventure.

Our guides are the heart of Alaska Backcountry Access. We traverse Alaska testing and honing our skills in search of adventure. Sharing this knowledge and experience with our guests is our passion. Always an innovator, every tour is unique to our operation. We pride ourselves with partnerships we form with land mangers, outfitters and our community.

Top quality gear is key to adventuring in Alaska. We outfit in appropriate gear for every tour. This includes: dry suits for rafting trips, splash gear for jet boating and kayaking; and backcountry boots and skis for snow trekking. Camping and expeditions are fully outfitted with roomy tents, comfortable pads and warm sleeping bags. On rainy days we are the only
outfitter on the Twentymile River with convertible canopies on each of our jet boats.

Alaskan backcountry cuisine is included on full-day trips, overnights and expeditions. We utilize many local, organic and wild caught ingredients for our delicious meals. Backcountry settings, selected wines and Alaskan beer highlight the dining experience. Snacks and water are provided on all tours.

Enjoy this guidebook of our most popular tours. They are developed with you, your family, friends and corporate groups in mind. Additionally, we offer vacation packages, travel itineraries and backcountry expeditions across Alaska. Custom guided activities include snowmobile tours, bear viewing, fishing and sled dog mushing. Filming and photography locations for magazines, TV and movies are a specialty too. Ten plus years of guiding water, snow and motor sports and our dedication to remote travel has taken us throughout Alaska.

We are proud to partner with the following companies to provide outstanding Alaskan adventure activities:
